Full Story:
John Christoforetti, MD was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1975. He graduated with highest honors from Peters Township High School. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he participated in youth sports ranging from football to skateboarding. While at Peters High he was a three year varsity letter winner in men's diving and active member of the ski club.
By 1990 he spent most of his free time learning and eventually teaching the martial arts at the Pennsylvania Karate Academy. Under the mentorship of Don Garon he earned his black belt in mixed martial arts and competed in many local, national and international competitions. In 1992 he was invited to the Super Grand National tournament of champions in San Jose, California.
His passion for the martial arts was exceeded only by a strong desire to help others, which led him to attend the University of Notre Dame for his premedical education.
As a student at the University of Notre Dame his academic success earned him membership in Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national premedical honors society.
He also continued his athletic pursuits through participation in the Notre Dame Boxing program. As a freshman he was named "Best Freshman Boxer" and fought to a draw in the championship of his weight class. He earned the "Best Boxer" award twice during his upperclass years and was champion in his weight division three consecutive years. As a junior and senior he served as team captain. The RecSports Division of the athletic department awarded him the Lifetime Service Award in 1997 for his role in the men's and women's boxing programs.
He currently serves as an assistant coach and orthopaedic consultant to Notre Dame Boxing.
